Journalism and Editing
I’ve been in the media industry since 2010, writing stories and doing interviews for newspapers, magazines and online publications, as well as creating content for radio and podcasts. I’ve contributed to a diverse range of publications across the UK and Europe, including The Local Europe, Deutsche Welle, The Herald & Times newspapers, Grazia, Glamour and BBC Radio Scotland.
I know how to produce content that performs: as DACH Editor at The Local Germany, I helped grow our membership by thousands of readers, building editorial strategy around the audience.
I also work in trade and conference journalism. A recent highlight was covering the World Retail Congress 2026, producing timely, accurate and professional coverage of panels and keynote speakers for an audience of senior industry figures. It’s an area I find super interesting and want to do more of.
In general I cover everything from breaking news and political analysis to travel, culture and human-interest stories. Please get in touch to discuss ideas – I’m always open to new commissions and collaborations.
Content Writing, Creative Copywriting and Communications Support
I work with individuals, organisations and media outlets to create clear, engaging content that connects with audiences across platforms and delivers results. My services include writing blogs, newsletters, website copy, native advertising, ghostwriting, press releases and other editorial content – all tailored to each client’s tone and goals, and optimised for search engines and AI platforms.
Recent clients include GetYourGuide and Fired Up Space. I have also worked on long-term projects with The Local Europe’s advertising team, creating high-performing content for clients such as the Vienna Business Agency, MyExpatTaxes, the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management and the American Overseas School of Rome (AOSR) among others.
With a background in journalism and years of experience in the media industry, I also offer strategic communications support, from refining messaging and brand voice to advising on content and public relations. Whether it’s a one-off article, an ongoing newsletter, or part of a wider communications strategy, I bring a thoughtful, audience-focused approach to every project.
Hosting and Moderating
I’m available to MC and moderate events. Recent highlights include hosting the Scottish Government in Germany’s annual Scottish Connections Burns Night, bringing together performers and speakers from across the world in Berlin.
I love interviewing people on stage and drawing out their insights, experiences and expertise. I’ve moderated panels for organisations such as Reflektor TV, and I bring the same approach to every event: thorough preparation, careful research and a genuine curiosity about the topic and the people on stage.
From introducing panellists to guiding the conversation, I aim to create a space for meaningful exchange with warmth and a sense of humour, which I think makes all the difference. I’m especially keen to moderate at conferences and am open to travelling across Europe and beyond.
Teaching and Journalism Workshops
I’ve taught journalism to Master’s students and mentored early-career reporters, sharing practical insights from my years in the media industry. In 2025, I have led journalism and content creation workshops for community organisations in Berlin, focusing on interview and storytelling techniques. I also regularly share tips on social media about what I’ve learned as a journalist – and how these skills can be valuable beyond the newsroom.
I’m available for journalism workshops, conferences and panel discussions and always open to new teaching opportunities.
Podcasting
I’m a huge fan of podcasts and believe they’re a powerful way to tell stories. Through launching, producing and hosting Germany in Focus, The Local Germany’s podcast, I developed skills in scripting, presenting and production. I coordinated guest bookings, led interviews and contributed to marketing, including creating clips for social media to grow engagement and reach.
I’m open to joining podcast teams in a scripting, production or presenting role and always keen to collaborate on audio storytelling.
Feel free to get in touch with me to discuss projects and rates.
“I remember interviewing Rachel for a job on Scotland’s biggest evening newspaper, the Evening Times in Glasgow, and had no hesitation in hiring her. She went on to become an excellent all-round journalist for the titles in our group and a trusted ambassador for our papers. I’m more than happy to recommend her.”
